What to do with your kids for 8 hours (and only watch 30 mins. of TV)

So today I challenged myself. It is really cold outside and I was low on gas money for the week. So the question I had for myself was "What am I going to do with my kids ALL day?" I have a 5 year old (homeschool) and a 2.5 year old.

So here is what I did:

8:00 get up and get breakfast. I read a book at the table during that time.

8:30 clean up breakfast and have my daughter sweep floor and load the dishwasher. (Yes, I let her help me with chores. Not only does it take up the day, but it teaches her some important life lessons).

Play dough time/ toy time

9:00 painting project. See full post here how we did it!

9:30 clean up painting project and do Calendar time and weather station.

10:00 dancing time with music. I also set up a huge hopscotch board with sidewalk chalk on our wooden floor.

10:30 playing with toys/cars etc.

11:00- 11:30 TV time (We watched the "Magic School Bus" about Force and Motion) And then we did an activity where we raced cars down a track and they pulled me with a pool noodle.

11:30 Lunch Time

12:00 my 2.5 year old has quiet time in his room. My daughter helps me with laundry and she cleans her room.

12:30 book time with 5 year old.

1:00 science experiment with candy canes. See the full blog post here:

1:30 swept and mopped floor with 5 year old and we cleaned the living room. We also played a board game waiting for my son to wake up.

2:30 I got son up from nap and he wanted to take a bath. Both of my children ended up wanting to play in the bath tub . I put some shaving cream on the wall of the tub and filled it with bubbles. That always takes time to do that.

3:00 get out of tub and get dressed, brush hair etc.

3:30 We danced with music and jumped into a pile of pillows.

4:00 DAD came home!

So if you are left at home with two kids under five and you can't leave the house, then don't fret!

Here are some great ideas to get you started!
