Help! No one will hire me!
Ever feel as if you are shouting on social media "HIRE ME! BOOK ME!" but little to no response? You might have the wrong approach. Unless you seriously want to cut your prices to attract ANY body to your business, you might want to try this instead.
See the video here to learn more:
So you post a mini session ad on facebook and you hear CRICKETS! I totally get you, that has happened to me before. Maybe you aren't getting a steady stream of clients because of your approach, not because your work is not fantastic.
The secret to getting and keeping clients is making them, yes them feel that you are a valuable person to work with and give their hard-earned money too! I know it sounds like "DUH" I already do that when I am nice to them during sessions and editing their images for them.
People need to know why they should invest in you.
The best way to do this is to become a content creator. Post interesting topics that they would find valuable. For example, in stead of just posting a photo of a session, instead write an article about the 5 ways to look good in photos. Better yet, make a video about it ( you can see my post and video here that I made about posing for a curvy body type that got over 1,500 views on facebook alone).
Once you create something of value, share it, tweet it, facebook it, instagram it and send it to your email list!
Constency is the key. Don't just post the occasional photo online. do a daily post and a weekly email about something new that you want to share or what's going on in your business.
From doing this, I can't tell you how many times people have commenting to me at church, "Wow, your business has really exploded." If they only knew that most of my work gets done at 3 am when NO one is even awake!
I am constantly looking for things to write about, to share about and to create content about. As soon as I started doing that, I kept being seen as an authority figure. I am asked a question on facebook about photography about once-a-week from random people that I have never met!
Besides being on social media constantly, a great idea is to form a strong email list that you can send these amazing ideas to.
How do you get a email list?
I am so glad that you asked. You can do it a couple of ways:
do a facebook shout out about singing up.
put a pop-up on your blog or website
keep record of every single person that has ever used you for a session and keep their email.
use your gallery (I use pixieset) that everytime someone wants to look at their photos, they have to sign up for your email list.
Make a little article or e-handout about something of value to capture the email like, "Download 5 ways to take better photos of your kids"
So let's review.
Be on the offensive with content creation and don't just wait for your phone to ring or your email to ding!
Post something of value that they would want to "find out more" about. Share this content on all your social media and email portals.
Post interesting content daily and be consistent. Remember that people need to see you 7 times in a row to remember what you do!
If you are consistent with your valuable content I promise you, that people will recommend YOU first as their family's photographer!
