FREE or affordable studio space when you are just starting out

Is it hard for you to justify committing to a monthly rental on a studio space when you have just started your business? There are so many local affordable options that are out-of-the-box to help you get your feet wet before investing in a long term commitment

.

find through social media groups

Check in your local Facebook groups for co-op, shared, collective studio spaces in your area. In my area there are four or five different companies that do this type of system. Some are natural light only with a few pieces of furniture, some are studio light only with modifiers and tethering, and some are a hydrid of both.

through market place forums

. Check craigslist or Facebook marketplace for cheap rental facilities like warehouses, churches that need help during the week to fill up their calendar, office spaces that are hourly or monthly but no permanent contract or other creative places

through friends/ colleagues

. . Team up with a local business that has a side room that you can trade services with or help with their rent I was able to connect with people through Instagram and trade services with marketing, social media management or more to use her studio space for free or reduced cost.

Use your home or a friend's house if you can

. . If your city allows it, use your home, a garage or a friend’s home

through the local library

. . Check your local public library and call them to reserve a space. A lot of times it’s very affordable to use their meeting rooms as studio space

air bnb (if owner allows)

. . Check with Airbnb to see if you could rent a home for an entire week or weekend for a photo marathon

hotels

. . Use a local hotel chain that does weekly rentals for you to use as a creative solution

. Have any other ideas? We would love to see what creative and affordable studio solutions you have come up with. . . Do you have a studio space permanently? We would love to hear your thoughts on if it’s worthwhile and how you maintain your sales and marketing to afford it.
